I was commissioned by the Guinness Storehouse to capture the full energy and excitement of their flagship St. Patrick’s Festival. In the week leading up to the event, I filmed and photographed the talented artists and chefs who were showcased during the festival, delivering polished edits for social media and the Guinness Storehouse website. During the festival itself, I covered live band performances, acts, engaging Q&As, and memorable moments across the venue, culminating in a dynamic wrap-up video that captured the spirit of the entire celebration. I was supported during the festival by fellow filmmaker Isaac Burke.

Written & Directed : Eddie Murphy Description: In a dystopian Ireland, Daithí, a grieving widower, lives in isolation. Haunted by the past and cocooning himself away from danger he lives in repetitive solitude. His only companion is CARA, an artificial intelligence confined to a homemade terminal. Yet, locked away in away deeper in his compound is something far more precious - ROBYN, or rather, the fragmented digital reconstruction of his late wife. Desperate to preserve her memory, Daithí spends his days painstakingly refining her personality and with CARA’s guidance, chasing the illusion of bringing her back. The words of Eddie Murphy: Traces blends the atmospheric isolation of Blade Runner, the sterile tension of Severance, and the desolate unease of 28 Days Later to craft a quiet, melancholic, and subtly unsettling tone. Traces came from myself and my creative partner - Paul Mahon - love for genre film, especially sci fi. We both loved the idea of creating something visually striking and exciting that have all the hallmarks or your classic sci-fi adventure yet retaining that rural Irish setting that feels both so desolate and comforting at the same time. This has been an ambitious passion project from top to bottom and are extremely proud of what we have achieved. We are very excited to present this short and cannot wait to continue on the story...

13/08/2025
This is my second collaboration with Lux Alma, building on our previous creative synergy to craft a visual landscape that breathes life into her evocative soundscape tune "As The Leaves Fall". The song itself is a delicate, introspective piece—layered textures, subtle melodies, and an emotional arc evoking change, impermanence, and quiet beauty—much like the slow drift of autumn leaves.I directed, shot, and edited the video to serve as a direct visual extension of her sonic world: serene yet poignant imagery that mirrors the track's mood without overpowering it. We filmed entirely in Woodstock (the historic demesne with its ancient trees, hidden paths, and golden-hour light filtering through foliage) and Inistioge using natural autumn light to capture falling leaves, rippling water, textured bark, and soft mists. The cinematography emphasizes organic movement—slow pans across drifting foliage, close-ups on textures in decay and renewal, wide shots of the Irish countryside in transition—creating a meditative, immersive journey that syncs rhythmically and emotionally with Alma's sound design. Supported by Arts Council Ireland—highlighting its artistic merit and local production value. Builds on our prior work together, evolving from sound-to-visual interpretations into fully realized cinematic pieces.

I filmed a 360° immersive video project for Fáilte Ireland in collaboration with The Custodian, showcasing the real-life roles and environments behind some of Ireland's flagship tourism venues. Shot in full 360° format, the footage places viewers directly into the daily operations: conference coordination at Croke Park, high-adrenaline activities at Ballyhass, and polished hospitality at The Continental Hotel—highlighting the people who make these places exceptional. The content was specifically designed to inspire young people entering the workforce. The final immersive experience was delivered via Meta VR headsets and shown to secondary school students across Ireland. Wearing the headset, students could look around in 360°, "walk through" the venues, and see what it feels like to work in these dynamic tourism environments—bringing career possibilities to life in an engaging, interactive way.

I also covered the pre-festival DJ Competition (a Cupra-sponsored qualifier held a few weeks before Beyond the Pale), filming heats, performances, judges, and winners to build hype and showcase emerging talent. The footage was edited into short, punchy social clips and longer highlights—emphasizing energy, music, and the brand's "rebel spirit" alignment with the festival's cutting-edge lineup. 01/01/2025
I created and performed live visuals for Hermitage Green across three big shows, all shown on huge LED walls to wrap the crowd in an immersive backdrop. The content evolved with their sound: warm, organic layers for the intimate Limerick marquee gig; bold, high-contrast graphics and anthemic pulses for the Electric Picnic Main Stage; and softer, woodland-inspired textures with dappled light for the Ranken Woods stage the following year. A key part was mixing in real-time stage footage from cinematographer Shane Serrano (Crude Films)—pulling close-ups of vocals, guitar, and drums straight into the visuals. This blended pre-designed reactive graphics with live shots, letting the audience see both the music and the band in one cinematic flow.LED scale, live camera integration, and music-responsive design made each gig a full visual and sonic experience.

The video features slow-motion sequences that capture every flip, vault, balance beam routine, and floor routine in crisp detail—showing off strength, grace, and dedication at full speed (and in dreamy slo-mo). Intercut with wide shots of the gym space—vault tables, bars, mats, colourful apparatus, and the kids training hard—to give a real sense of the facility as a welcoming, professional space for young athletes. Photography includes dynamic action stills (frozen mid-air moments), group portraits, and clean venue shots for social media, website, and promo use. Everything was edited with upbeat music, subtle text overlays, and a positive, motivational feel to celebrate the club and inspire new members.

A tabletop sculpture made entirely from household recycling—milk cartons, tea boxes, cereal packets, cardboard scraps, and whatever else was around the house—all glued together into a seemingly chaotic pile. But shine a torch from one very specific spot, and the shadows cast on the wall behind form a perfect city skyline: towers, rooftops, the lot. The mess becomes architecture; the rubbish becomes skyline. It’s a quiet comment on waste, perception, and hidden beauty—everything you need is already in the room, you just have to look at it the right way.

I provided live visuals and projections for Sing Along Social at numerous events, turning stages into immersive, crowd-powered spectacles. The visuals—glittery pop graphics, nostalgic icons, lyric bursts, disco effects, and playful animations—react in real time to the playlist and hosting energy. A standout technique (especially at venues like The Sugar Club) was filming audience members during the gig and instantly weaving those clips into the projections. This created a live, participatory loop: the crowd sees themselves singing along on the big screen, amplifying the communal craic and making every event feel unique and personal. At All Together Now Main Stage, the visuals scaled up for festival crowds—massive projections syncing to thousands belting out hits from Mariah to ABBA. This approach perfectly captures Sing Along Social's ethos—no pressure, pure joy, everyone involved

All You Can Be
Music Video
01/01/2024
Artist: Hermitage Green, Limerick five-piece: Darragh Griffin, Darragh Graham, Dermot Sheedy, Dan Murphy, Barry Murphy Filmed By: The children of the band members – a special, heartfelt touch that brings raw authenticity and joy to the footage I directed and edited this warm, family-centered music video for Hermitage Green's "All You Can Be"—a beautiful electronic departure from their established indie-folk sound, inspired by keyboardist Darragh Griffin's early days as a father. The song reflects the quiet magic of parenthood: mundane moments becoming the best parts of the day, the growing bond with his daughter and wife, and an ephemeral, dream-like joy captured in light-hearted, loving lyrics. What makes this video truly special: all footage was shot by the children of the band members themselves. Handheld cameras in the hands of the kids at St. John's in Cork create an unfiltered, playful, and deeply personal perspective—shaky, intimate angles, candid close-ups on the band performing, crowd energy from a child's-eye view, and spontaneous moments that feel genuine and full of wonder. I shaped the raw kid-filmed material in editing to preserve that innocence while syncing it to the track's polished, crisp production. The result is a touching visual that mirrors the song's themes—resilience, family connection, and embracing what you can be—while giving the next generation a literal hand in telling the story. A lovely collaboration with a band I've crossed paths with in the Irish scene, emphasizing heart over polish.

As part of the Lightscape team, I animated Hozier's Unreal Unearth album cover to serve as a recurring motif and transition element in the live visuals across the American tour. The original artwork (the striking, ethereal figure in a fiery landscape) was brought to life with subtle, atmospheric motion: gentle breathing/pulsing, flowing embers, shifting light, and evolving textures that tied directly into the album's themes of mythology, love, grief, and rebirth. The animation was designed to be versatile—used as intro sequences, between-song transitions, background layers during key tracks (e.g., "Francesca," "Eat Your Young," "First Light"), and moments of stage drama. It reacted subtly to lighting cues and song dynamics, creating a cohesive visual thread that felt both organic and cinematic on large LED screens and stage projections.

For SaaStock at the RDS, I designed and performed custom projection mapping onto a large, cloud-like shaped backdrop that served as the main stage focal point. The visuals turned the abstract, ethereal cloud form into a living, breathing canvas—soft, flowing particle effects, subtle gradients, data-inspired animations, and reactive elements that pulsed and shifted in time with the speakers, keynotes, and music transitions. The mapping followed the irregular contours of the cloud structure perfectly, creating an immersive, dreamlike atmosphere that tied into the conference theme of innovation, scalability, and "sky-high" growth in the SaaS world.

This includes: Body & Soul Festival (Ballinlough Castle): Filmed Daithí's set at this renowned immersive/arts-focused festival—capturing the woodland vibes, crowd energy, and his live improv magic in the festival's unique, adventurous atmosphere (pop-ups, surprises, and eclectic stages). Edited into bite-sized social pieces to amplify the experience online. Button Factory Gig (Dublin): Shot and edited content from Daithí's headline performance at this iconic Dublin venue. The footage includes dynamic stage shots, close-ups on his fiddle/electronics setup, and crowd interaction—crafted specifically for social promotion ahead of tours and releases. Soundome in Castlecomer: Filmed and edited a full live performance piece inside the geodesic Soundome dome. I created and performed the live visuals for Denise Chaila's electrifying set at Longitude Festival. To build a tailored visual world, I filmed custom close-up footage during a tour of Kilkenny Castle—capturing textures, architecture, light play, and atmospheric details that evoked heritage, strength, and storytelling. These elements were layered with clips from her previous music videos (e.g., mythical/empowering imagery from "Chaila," "061," or other work), creating a seamless, reactive projection set that synced to her performance, lyrics, and energy. The result amplified her commanding presence and Limerick-rooted narrative—regal castle motifs, dynamic transitions, and beat-synced graphics blending history with modern hip-hop flair, immersing the Main Stage crowd in a cohesive visual story.

Blending MiniDV footage captured on location in Thomastown with greenscreen sequences shot at my studio, this playful 90s-inspired music video embraces a raw, rough-and-ready aesthetic infused with psychedelic flair to perfectly complement 1000 Beasts' chilled, soulful R&B-hip-hop vibe. The visuals lean into nostalgic lo-fi charm—grainy textures, vibrant color pops, trippy effects, and dynamic edits—while syncing seamlessly to the track's honeyed vocals (from Waterford singer Carrie) and laid-back grooves. It captures a fun, experimental energy that echoes the song's themes of longing and introspection, all wrapped in immersive, beat-driven motion graphics and layered imagery. The Blue Shroud
Feature Documentary
Film
01/09/2021
I edited this compelling music documentary centered on Barry Guy's powerful large-ensemble composition The Blue Shroud. The film explores the work's deep inspirations: Picasso's iconic painting Guernica (created in response to the 1937 bombing of the Basque city during the Spanish Civil War), the historical atrocity itself, and the symbolic 2003 event where a blue drape was hung over a UN tapestry reproduction of Guernica before a U.S. press conference—highlighting themes of censorship, war, compassion, and humanity's capacity to learn from history. My editing shaped the documentary's narrative flow, interweaving performance footage of Barry Guy directing and performing with the superb ensemble, archival material, interviews, and reflective sequences. The goal was to create a cohesive, immersive experience that mirrors the composition's emotional depth—balancing intense historical context with moments of musical serenity and hope. This involved precise pacing to let the music breathe, seamless transitions between talking-head insights and live/experimental performance clips, and rhythmic cuts synced to the score's dynamics. This project fits squarely in my long-standing work with innovative Irish and international musicians. It showcases my ability to handle music-driven storytelling in documentary form—ensuring the edit serves both the artistic intent and the emotional resonance of Barry Guy's vision that "compassion is still a currency open to all."

The piece is a full-on journey into woozy, altered states of mind—perfectly synced to the track's mind-bending sounds, shimmering analog synths, tribal percussion, exotic vocals, and chromatic, hallucinogenic grooves. Embracing an "out there" aesthetic, the visuals plunge into trippy, immersive territory: swirling patterns, distorted realities, vibrant color shifts, abstract motion graphics, and surreal layering that evoke shamanic experiences and the duo's influences from ancient African/pre-Columbian worlds under a modern electronic skin. It captures the song's feverish, borderless energy—organic yet otherworldly—while letting the hypnotic rhythms drive the visual frenzy.

Lux Alma
To The Sea
Music Video
01/01/2020
This was the very first collaboration between me and Lux Alma—a full audio-visual odyssey commissioned by Siamsa Tíre during lockdown. Confined in Dublin and longing for the Atlantic of her Kerry upbringing, Alma embarked on a post-restrictions journey along the coast, recording at every inlet and bay (86 in total). She transformed those raw sea sounds into the music itself: wave crashes as cymbals, impulses in synths, her dad's laughter woven in—creating a piece where "the sea isn’t just the inspiration; it is the music."I directed and edited the visuals to form a complementary landscape: an immersive celebration of the ocean's elemental beauty, awesome power, and emotional pull. The video blends performance (Alma's soaring vocals), field-derived imagery (coastal textures, water motion, light on waves), and otherworldly elements (her signature sea-creature motif—mythical, female-strength inspired, luring deeper into the depths with jubilation and heartbreak). It's meditative yet thrilling—mirroring the track's themes of homecoming, longing, dissolution into the sea, and the thrill of being "cracked open" by it. This project launched our creative partnership— It set the tone for our later work together (e.g., "As the Leaves Fall"), emphasizing location, atmosphere, and synergy between audio and visuals. As well as collorating on a TANOKI tune, Broken. Premiered via RTE Culture as "an audio-visual celebration of the elemental beauty and awesome power of the Atlantic Ocean" (July 2021).

The video embraces a bold, irreverent energy: cheeky concepts, quick cuts, absurd humor (including a memorable "coke-crazed puppet" cameo), and playful staging that perfectly matches the song's witty, empowering vibe about shedding inhibitions (or layers) with attitude. Shot in a lockdown-friendly setup, it features standout moments like Louise Bruton's special cameo (the music journalist hilariously leaning into the chaos), dynamic visuals, and over-the-top antics that amplify Sarah Byrne's creative flair—from eating sushi off a tattooed naked man in past work to gem-encrusted faces here. Walking On Cars
Monster
Music Video
01/01/2019
Directors: Luke Daly & Nathan Fagan (Luna) I edited the music video for Walking on Cars' "Monster"—a dark, intense track about inner conflict and emotional release. The official video features cinematic performance shots, moody lighting, and a narrative thread with Isabelle Connolly, all building to match the song's brooding energy and powerful choruses. In key sections, I applied datamoshing effects to create glitchy, distorted transitions and visual artifacts—intentionally corrupting frames to generate a raw, fractured, almost digital-pain aesthetic that mirrors the lyrics' sense of breaking down and being overwhelmed. This added an experimental edge, making the video feel unstable and emotionally charged, while still maintaining overall flow and sync to the track's driving rhythm.

Gold Blooded Women
Blood is Blood
Music Video
01/01/2019
I directed this darkly funny music video for Gold Blooded Woman's debut single "Blood is Blood"—an electropop banger with disco-funk beats, snappy rhythms, and anthemic energy. The concept riffs on Lars and the Real Girl: Sarah falls hard for a mannequin ("Manny") during the honeymoon phase, only for the relationship to unravel in absurd, chaotic fashion. We shot on location around Kilkenny and Thomastown—dragging the mannequin through town, blending everyday Irish settings with over-the-top antics, quick cuts, vibrant styling, and cheeky humor that matches Sarah's bold creative voice. It showcases my knack for humorous, character-driven music videos that lean into the artist's personality and concept without taking themselves too seriously. Highlights & Press: Premiered via GCN as an "exceptional music video" where Sarah "falls for a mannequin"—praised for its Lars and the Real Girl inspiration and "gas but dark" energy.

Anima
Music Video
01/01/2019
I created this deeply psychedelic music video for AKKAN's "Anima" (feat. Huaira)—a full immersion into woozy, liquid states of mind that mirrors the track's boundary-blurring organic-electronic sound. Shot and cut entirely by me, the visuals push boundaries with trippy, chromatic explorations: swirling distortions, fluid color shifts, abstract layering, hallucinogenic patterns, and surreal motion that evoke the duo's origins in a shamanic/hallucinogenic journey through Southern Africa. The piece embodies the song's "liquid" essence (born from untimed, free-flowing melodies on Access Virus and DSI Prophet synths), blending tribal percussion, shimmering analog tones, exotic vocals, and contagious grooves into a mind-bending visual feast. It's very much "out there"—raw psychedelic experimentation with immersive, beat-synced effects that amplify the track's hypnotic, borderless energy and themes of spiritual/organic connection.

The dome was assembled for the gig and dismantled afterward, making it a one-off, pop-up immersive event. Description: I shot and edited this live performance capture of Daithí playing inside the Soundome in Castlecomer—a truly unique, mind-blowing setup that turned the gig into an all-encompassing sonic and visual journey. Daithí's improvised set (synths, drum machines, live fiddle, and electronic grooves soaked in Irish culture) was perfectly suited to the dome's surround technology, creating an intimate yet expansive dance experience where the audience stood/danced right alongside the artist, fully immersed in the sound. My filming captured the energy of the performance: dynamic angles inside the geodesic structure, close-ups on Daithí's multi-instrumental setup (fiddle + electronics), crowd reactions, and the dome's architectural glow. In post-production, I edited it into a cohesive piece that preserves the event's magic—highlighting the innovative audio immersion, rhythmic builds, and Daithí's signature blend of trad Irish elements with modern house/dance—while conveying the one-night-only excitement.

The video dives deep into "very out there" territory: swirling distortions, vibrant hallucinogenic patterns, fluid color explosions, abstract layering, and surreal motion graphics that sync to the song's tribal percussion, shimmering synths, and exotic, ritualistic grooves. The piece captures a full-on psychedelic immersion—raw, immersive, and boundary-pushing—to mirror the track's feverish energy and shamanic undertones. It's a visual trip that amplifies AKKAN's borderless, folk-infused club music, blending hypnotic rhythms with otherworldly imagery for a disorienting yet captivating experience. I performed live visuals for AKKAN during a show in Barcelona, building on our prior music video collaborations ("Bananat," "Salvia," "Anima," "El Mutal"). The projections brought their organic-electronic sound to life with psychedelic, reactive graphics: swirling distortions, vibrant color shifts, tribal/shamanic motifs, abstract layering, and beat-synced motion that mirrored their jungle-tinged grooves and ritualistic energy. Designed to immerse the audience in their no-laptop, controller-and-percussion live setup, the visuals amplified the hypnotic, borderless vibe—extending the trippy aesthetic from the videos into real-time stage environment.

Keep Your Heart
Music Video
01/01/2018
I edited the official music video for Loah's "Keep Your Heart" remix—featuring God Knows on bars, built on Bantum's minute-long This Heart Interlude loop, with Ben Bix and Dunny contributing production layers. This was the standout in Loah's remix series: the first to receive a full video accompaniment, turning the short instrumental into a poignant, vocal-driven piece that blends soulful introspection with rhythmic depth and guest energy. The video complements the track's emotional weight—God Knows' lyrics adding raw, reflective bars over the evolving beat—through careful editing that balances performance shots, atmospheric visuals, and rhythmic syncing to let the collaboration shine. My post-production shaped the footage into a cohesive, impactful piece: tight pacing to build emotional resonance, subtle transitions, and visual flow that honors the remix's transformation from interlude to full song.

17/10/2017
I shot and directed the official music video for Elaine Mai's "When I Go"—a serene yet powerful visual journey entirely filmed at a breathtaking lake just a ten-minute walk from where Elaine grew up in Mayo. This personal, natural location provided the perfect backdrop: calm waters, expansive skies, and shifting light that mirror the song's themes of gaining perspective, reconnecting with nature, clearing the mind, and moving from darkness into light. The video takes viewers on that emotional arc—starting in quieter, introspective moments and building toward a sense of release and renewal—through effortless, considered cinematography: wide landscape shots capturing the Irish wilderness, intimate close-ups on Elaine, subtle lighting transitions, and rhythmic edits synced to the track's emotive electronic layers and soaring vocals. It's a piece of visual art that works in tandem with the song, emphasizing simplicity, beauty, and emotional depth without overproduction. Premiered via GCN (Gay Community News) as a "brand new music video" shot at Elaine's childhood lake in Mayo—described as "breathtaking Irish landscape footage" and "an effortless but considered piece of visual art" (October 2017).

The Sunrise Inn

Film
01/01/2017
The Sunrise Inn was born from the creative pressure-cooker of a 2-day film festival in the historic town of Birr, Co. Offaly—where filmmakers get a weekend to conceive, shoot, and deliver a finished short film. I filmed and edited this piece, pulling together a tight, engaging story that made the most of the limited time, local locations, and talented cast. The Sunrise Inn follows a brother-and-sister hitman duo who have worked together seamlessly for years—until the brother starts having serious second thoughts about taking on any new kills. When a job comes in, he makes a radical choice: instead of pulling off the hit, he walks away from the life of violence and takes a gig playing music in a quiet bar, seeking redemption and a quieter existence. Shot on location in and around Birr (leveraging the town's historic charm and the real-life Sunrise Inn pub), the film was brought to life under extreme time constraints— quick setups, improvised solutions, and a frantic edit to meet the festival deadline. John Doran and Aoife Spratt delivered compelling, layered performances as the siblings, capturing the tension of their fractured partnership and the brother's internal conflict.

The video uses clear narration, dynamic shots of the dome interior/exterior, sound demos (e.g., how audio feels from every angle), and simple motion graphics to illustrate the tech (speaker placement, wave propagation, before/after comparisons). Edited for social media and promo use—short runtime, punchy pacing, branded text overlays—helping introduce the venue to musicians, promoters, audiences, and potential partners. This project highlights the Soundome's innovation (a one-of-a-kind, transportable immersive stage) while tying into my work filming and explaining live music experiences

Donkey Jaw
Music Video
25/09/2016
Genre/Style: High-Energy / Psychedelic / Disorienting Visuals for chaotic, party-anthem track I edited the official music video for King Kong Company's "Donkey Jaw"—a full-on, bouncy banger that's equal parts public service announcement and hedonistic call-to-arms. The track is a spoken-word rant over pounding beats, celebrating (and cautioning about) over-indulgence in "social lubricants" (Buckfast, MDMA, mushrooms)—a colorful, irreverent commentary on pleasure-seeking and excess, delivered with the band's signature bastardised glory and festival-ready energy. The video is a mind-bending ride: fast cuts, equilibrium-shaking effects, chaotic imagery, and raw, in-your-face visuals that sync perfectly to the song's relentless groove and lyrics ("nothin off of that," "head on ya"). My editing shaped the footage into a disorienting, immersive experience—tight pacing to build frenzy, rhythmic transitions, and visual overload that amplifies the track's euphoric yet cautionary tone, making it feel like a psychedelic party gone gloriously wrong. This project aligns with my work on high-impact, personality-driven videos (e.g., Gold Blooded Woman's cheeky concepts, AKKAN's psychedelic trips, BARQ's soulful energy), and captures King Kong Company's live-wire spirit (known for epic gigs at Electric Picnic, festivals, and their "hedonists choice" ethos). Highlights & Press: Praised as "a full-on, energetic, bouncy, banger" (Hot Press) and "barnstormer" (The Thin Air); visuals called "class" and Prodigy-esque (JOE.ie).

Concept: Inspired by the Rapa Nui people of Easter Island (Rapa Nui) and their moai statues—how a society poured all its resources into monumental creations, ultimately leading to ecological strain. The parallel draws to modern Ireland: tower stations and fossil-fuel infrastructure as our own "moai", symbols of progress built at the cost of finite resources. Visual Piece: I created a site-specific visual artwork for the EP, shown at Clonmel Arts Festival. The piece used projection, light, and subtle motion to evoke the moai's silent presence and the weight of resource use—blending ancient island imagery with contemporary Irish power infrastructure in a quiet, haunting way.Photography Book: With my friend Ricardo Kump (Brazilian photographer), we produced a limited photography book. We travelled the south of Ireland photographing electricity pylons, wind turbines, and other tower stations—framing them as modern equivalents to the moai: imposing, solitary, and built from the land's resources. The images are stark, almost sculptural, letting the parallel emerge without words. The EP, visual piece, and book together form a quiet meditation on creation, cost, and what we leave behind. et cetera is a non-narrative film inspired by the salutary tale of the Rapa Nui people of Easter Island. A fascinating story of the collapse of a society in isolation and eradication of nature resources in the creation of their Moai statues. The parallels between our own Power Stations and the Moai, standing stubborn, sea-facing and completely depleting a finite natural resource are bleak. This visual depicts our frivolous use of power and throwaway living suggested the name ‘Et Cetera’ literally meaning ‘and other things’. It posits a future ahead that begins to resemble a worst case scenario... We leaned hard into the retro cheese—over-the-top voiceovers, dramatic zooms, explosions of motion graphics, toy-box packaging shots, and every classic 80s commercial cliché we could cram in. The whole thing was built around glorifying Michael & Ciaran as larger-than-life action figures, complete with ridiculous accessories, catchphrases, and a barrage of shiny, glowing motion graphics to sell the fantasy. I directed, shot, and edited the official music video for James Cooper's "Epitaph," one of the standout tracks from his 2012 album Foreign Cities (a 10-track collection of introspective indie/folk-rock with emotional depth). This video was created as part of the Foreign Cities Music Films project, where James briefed 9 Dublin-based directors (including myself as Geppetto) to each create an open-brief "music film" for a chosen track—allowing full creative freedom for narrative, experimental, or traditional promo styles. Starring Shane Guerrini in the lead role, the video brings a cinematic narrative to the song's melancholic, reflective lyrics—exploring themes of loss, legacy, or personal epitaphs through character-driven storytelling, atmospheric visuals, and emotional performance. Highlights & Context: Part of the Foreign Cities Music Films series (2011–2012): 10 videos by directors including Niall Staines, Maciej Pestka, Sophie Merry, James Cooper himself, Daniel Coss, Mark Duggan, Jennifer Hyland, Geppetto (me), and Tom Lennon.

For the FTLO (For the Love of PROGRESS) show, I designed and built a fully functional custom "vinyl player" that embodied the theme of technological and entertainment evolution—from analog vinyl records to digital video formats. The device looked like a classic turntable, complete with physical buttons for selecting tracks. However, there was no actual vinyl disc—instead, the music video played directly where the record would normally sit, projected onto the platter surface. Pressing a button triggered the corresponding track's video to play in the projection, creating an interactive, seamless illusion: users "selected" songs on a retro player, but experienced modern digital video entertainment. This hybrid piece visually and interactively demonstrated progression: the physical form paid homage to vinyl's tactile history, while the projected content represented the shift to video/streaming formats. It was a highlight of the show—engaging audiences, sparking conversations about media evolution, and blending practical engineering (buttons, projection alignment) with creative direction and video production.

Act Without Words II
by Samuel Beckett
Film
01/01/2011
I filmed & Edited Act Without Words II for Company SJ, Sarah Jane Scaife's theatre company dedicated to re-presenting Samuel Beckett's work in contemporary Irish and international contexts. This Beckett mime—featuring two protagonists (A and B) emerging from sacks in a confined space, compelled into mechanical daily routines by an unseen goad (a stick or whistle)—was reimagined as a powerful outdoor installation in urban alleys, underpasses, and public spaces across cities. My filming captured the essence of these site-specific performances: the stark lighting contrasts, physical precision of the actors (Keane and Burroughs delivering intense, wordless physicality), the urban framing, and the interplay between Beckett's text/directions and the surrounding environment. This documentation preserves the ephemeral nature of the installations—highlighting how the piece resonates differently in each location while staying faithful to Beckett's frieze-like, violently lit platform aesthetic.

Cast Highlights: Joe Lydon (as Fillipo Colodi / the melancholy inventor) Naomi Coyle (model/performer) Lisa Tighe (supporting) Synopsis & Background: A musical tale of a happenstance vision and its fall from the sky. In a bid to regain possession, a melancholy inventor leaves his aerial abode and ventures earthbound only to find more than expected... The film features two Geppetto tracks from the era (instrumental/experimental pieces tied to the band's sound), woven into the narrative as score and emotional drivers. It tells a whimsical yet melancholic story of an inventor chasing a lost vision (symbolic and dreamlike), blending romance, quiet humor, and visual poetry. The collaboration with Zoe Carol brought in fashion elements—elegant, conceptual costumes that enhanced the film's aesthetic—while Joe Lydon's performance grounded the surreal elements in character depth. Presentation & Context At the Kilkenny Arts Festival 2011, Geppetto returned without the full live band (after the 2009 Amiina support slot debut). Instead, the finished EP was presented through two short films, with Storm in a Teacup as the main piece. It screened alongside a live solo track performance, creating a hybrid audio-visual experience. The film also showed at the Dublin Fashion Festival that year, highlighting the fashion-film crossover. This project exemplifies the "factotum" ethos of Geppetto—merging my film direction/editing roots with music composition and collaborative visuals. It built on the Geppetto band/collective (with members like Colm O'Caoimh, Jeremy Hickey, Jane Murphy, Margie Lewis) and paved the way for later narrative shorts like TRACES.

Eric
Short Film
Film
01/01/2010
As my end-of-year project at Pulse Recording College in 2010, students were tasked with writing a short film script. Mine—a tender, quirky story about a lonely man and his puppet, exploring themes of isolation, companionship, and unconventional love—was selected from the class to be produced. Titled Eric, the film follows a puppeteer's heartfelt (and humorous) love story with his handmade creation, blending comedy, drama, and a touch of whimsy in a character-driven narrative. David Thompson delivered a standout performance as the central lonely figure, bringing warmth and vulnerability to the role. The soundtrack featured evocative original music composed by longtime collaborator Colm O'Caoimh (piano/violin/keys from the Geppetto band era), alongside a personal composition from me—tying together the film's emotional layers with subtle, atmospheric sound design. This student project punched above its weight: it went on to win a prize at the Canadian International Film Festival in the student film category, marking an early international recognition for my filmmaking. It also screened as part of my portfolio at various festivals and helped solidify my transition from early Geppetto visuals and music into more narrative-driven short films.

Geppetto first started as a musical project between Paul Mahon and Simone Kelly, and around 2005 Paul started to upload solo instrumental music to MySpace as Geppetto. Years later, in 2009 Paul was invited to play as Geppetto in support of Icelandic band Amiina for the Kilkenny Arts Festival at the St Canice Cathedral. That year Paul put together the band of Jane Murphy on Cello, Colm O'Caoimh on Piano and Jeremy Hickey on Drums. This live set was later then recorded in Windmill Lane Studios and became their debut EP called Cathedral.

Filmed entirely on Mini DV during a season in the Southern Alps, We Are Green Pixels documents a collective of Irish riders—including Conor Whelan, Jamie Harte, and Liam Printer—in the heart of the New Zealand scene. Much of the series was captured at the legendary, and now defunct, SnoPark, alongside sessions in Wanaka, Queenstown, and a DIY junkyard shoot. It’s a raw, lo-fi archive of 2008 mountain culture and a tribute to one of the most iconic freestyle resorts in snowboarding history.

Filmed, Editing as well as performed visuals for RSAG since 2007. We started by filming multiple takes of Jeremy playing each instrument which was then edited together to make a full band of silhouettes behind him on live drums for the RSAG live show. Jeremy as RSAG has played nearly all venues and festivals in Ireland as well as playing on RTE's The Saturday show and The View. I also created the kaleidoscopic visuals for this official music video, blending immersive, beat-synced effects with hypnotic patterns and abstract imagery that complement RSAG's signature fusion of frenzy and serenity. The track—produced by Jeremy Hickey, mixed by Mick Heffernan, with lyrics co-written by Jeremy Hickey and Jamie Walsh—draws inspiration from scientific explorations of black holes, building relentless momentum with commanding vocals, strings, and powerful drumming. My contributions emphasize dynamic, psychedelic motion graphics and visual layering that mirror the song's cosmic themes and rhythmic drive, enhancing the human-fueled energy RSAG is known for.

A Summer Well Wasted
A Kilkenny Skate Video
Sport
30/11/2003
Shot throughout the summer of 2003 on MiniDV with a small crew of local skaters around Kilkenny and nearby spots (the streets, car parks, and any flat ledges we could find). No budget, no sponsors—just friends, a borrowed camera, and a lot of time skating, falling, and filming. The edit was done on a basic setup (Adobe Premiere Pro), with a full soundtrack of tracks we loved at the time (punk, hip-hop, whatever was blasting at the time). It captured that golden, endless-feeling summer vibe: bail montages, the odd make, and the pure joy of just being out skating every day. It never got a massive online release (pre-YouTube era), but copies were burned on DVDs as well as VHS and passed around the Irish skate scene. It was the thing that made me realise I wanted to keep filming and editing—not just for skateboarding, but as a way to tell stories and freeze moments.
